The career mode work?

No, it does not work. I hope some community editor can contribute the necessary coding and possible fixes to make it functional. ONLY TOURNAMENT MODE AND CUSTOM MODE ARE AVAILABLE.

Info Update: Several editors have offered to make this mode functional, BUT ONLY AFTER I'VE FINISHED ALL MY WORK. I'm frustrated to see the question "WHEN WILL IT WORK?" repeatedly asked, without even a query in the SG thread or in answers already given in YouTube videos.

What was edited for this patch?

Players, uniforms, and logos. I also fixed stadiums, adboards, the soundtrack, and menus. NO NEW TEAMS WERE CREATED, NOT EVEN NATIONAL TEAMS. There are new teams, of course, but they were created by replacing teams absent in 2005/2006. For example, Ascoli replaced Napoli in Serie A (using your original FIFA 06 ID).

The patch is made using real team and player IDs to reuse existing content and avoid overloading the database.

Info Update: Some clubs have been added, as I'm already deciding what to edit. Teams like Nacional, Penarol, and Napoli will be available in the rest of the world. However, only the team, no real players. 

And Don't worry, CROATIA, JAPAN... and other beloved teams will be in the patch!

Does it work on the original or cracked FIFA?

Well, thanks to FIFA 16 Delusional (cracked), I had access to the game for the first time in my life, almost 10 years after its release. I edited and tested everything on this version, so I recommend using it as well.
